Better? Than what?


Yeah, he's in better shape.  Yeah, he's a better defensive first baseman than Chris Cron.

But he's still the slowest guy in the league, by a lot.  And his offensive numbers are UNimpressive.  Hitting .256, never walks (OBP of .288) and sub-.500 slugging percentage.  His .730 OPS is lower than any year of his career except 2017, when one publication rated him the least productive offensive player in baseball.

No way he should be hitting fourth in the Angels' lineup.  He brings nothing except memories.  You could replace his offense with any number of guys drawn blindfolded from a paper bag.  And have $20 million left over to spend on pitching.
