CBI was the bastard redheaded stepchild of the U.S. war effort. Europe got most of the attention from the Pentagon, then the Pacific. If anything was left over in terms of supplies and other war material, CBI got it.
I knew a guy who used to fly supplies in a C-47 over "the hump" (the Himalayas). He said it got so cold up there in that plane he couldn't feel his hands or his feet at various times.
I think it must've been General "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell who organized the first CBI basketball tournament. Perhaps Merrill's Marauders were the first team invited.
