...he really is waaaaay too conservative. When you're the Minnesota Gophers, the only way you're going to get to the next level is to take chances -- lots of chances. You're hardly ever going to out-talent the top teams in the conference.
His kids did play hard for him, and he did have their back. So I do think it's a shame that he was fired. I'm not sure who the Gophers have in mind to replace him, if anyone, but it's a hard place to attract a top coach. I think this move is going to bite them in the ass.
