The vote did take place after the ND comeback game and probably would have changed the outcome of the voting had it taken place after the game. As for Beban, his numbers were not impressive, but he was a great college player who did everything well, or well enough to win. He was a leader and a gamer and deserving IMO. However that is not to say that OJ wasn't more deserving, but in those days they tended to ignore the underclassmen and, remember, OJ was a judo transfer in his first year at SC. Beban had put together a solid three year career which also carried more weight in the voting back then.
