Clancy puts his corners on islands...

They usually do not have safety help.   That allows USC to be stronger in run support.   It works if you have excellent CB's.  On paper, Biggie and Jack Jones should be a great combo of outside corners.  Both were consensus 5 star guys.  Biggie was by far the top CB recruit in the country when he committed to USC, while Jones was the 3rd ranked corner the next year.  Unfortunately, Jones is a head case (he's suspended for the spring), and Grabbie's brand of playing cornerback has resulted either in holding penalties, PI's, or getting beaten on long passes.  When Clancy's defense has guys playing their positions well it works...as it did his early years at Cal and his year at DC under Sark.

He has so much depth this coming season, that there is no excuse for it not working in 2018.
