Chip is a mystery wrapped in an enigma...

He was giving scholarships to offensive linemen last year that nobody thought were Pac 12 caliber guys.  He signed a big class, but the quality was well below UCLA's previous standards.    He got a couple of guys that USC was at least considering, but in general, a lot of the guys he took had everyone shaking their kids.

16 of UCLA's recruits were 3 stars or lower on the 247 composite.  6 of them were outside the top 1000.  By contrast, only one of USC's recruits was a 3-star, and even he was a 4-star recruit on Rivals...A kid from a rich family who's parents would not let him play football until his junior year... lots of potential as an Olineman.
