Ensure your interests are aligned

By: Hard Way

One way to align your advisors incentives with your interests is to look for an experienced Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).  They typically get paid a fee ranging mostly from 0.5% to 1.5% of your assets.  If your assets grow, their fee grows, so they have more incentive to help your wealth increase.  They are legally bound to a Fiduciary standard, operating in your best interest, wheareas non-RIAs are generally under no such compulsion.

If you don't value what you get for their fee, put 75% of your money in an S&P 500 ETF, and 20% in a U.S Treasury Note ETF, and let it ride.  5% goes to physical gold coins or bullion as insurance against Central Bank malfeasance with fiat money.
