I don't get it

I've always been very ambivalent about advertising. At its best, it's brilliant. At its worst, it's infuriating. I understand branding, and I know you have to take risks. But I can't understand why any company would want to slit its own throat.

Then again, I suppose in this day and age of ADHD, any advertising is good advertising, regardless of the venomous word of mouth it's generating.
