Thats the difference.

They are applying as regular students who pad their application with being able to contribute as a non scholarship athlete. Unless the coach is in on the scheme, like Vavic, a coach  would have no idea that a regular student is fradulently representing themselves as a potential walk on athlete. Once admitted, the Admissions Office does not track the student. All they do is weight the merits of the student applying  In the case of Vavic, he was helping the student gain admission, by falsely representing the applicant to the Admissions  Office as a walk on. By the way, coaches, all the time, push for kids to gain entrance as preferred  walk ons, and there is nothing wrong with that because the kid will actually being recruited legitiemately as a walk on non scholarship athlete.
