Title IX killed the sport...

By: Contrarian

One of my first sports memories was going to the coliseum and watching a USA/USSR track meet..there had to be 50,000-60,000 people there.  Track in the 50's and 60's was a big deal in L.A.  Heck USC's dual meets in T&F against other Pac 8 teams were televised on Channel 11.  Between USC and UCLA's track teams, you could have put together a pretty good olympic team.  I loved T&F back in the day...Title IX in 1972 totally fucked that up, taking away the vast majority of men's scholarships from the sport..prior to that, track was huge in L.A.
