The flu isn't any more of a direct cause of death than COVID is a direct cause of death.  Most of the people who die from either had pre-exisiting conditions.


A normal flu season kills between 35,000 and 45,000 a year.  COVID-related deaths have killed 250,000 so far, and COVID-related illnesses have hospitalized millions more than flu ever does.  Yeah, I'm sure the hospitals just love filling the beds with people who aren't that sick so they can turn away people who are.  And I'm sure COVID has nothing to do with the spike in hospitalizations and death; I'm sure 2020 just produced an abnormally high number of asthmatics and COPD patients going down for the dirt nap, all for the goddamned hell of it.

Oh, well, I guess fuck all the people with pre-existing conditions and party like it's 1999.
