Bullet Proof glass is discriminatory

The Philadelphia City Council feels that bulletproof glass sends the wrong message to customers. In a vote of 14-3 they voted to approve a bill that aims to crack down on certain convenience stores and to compel shop owners to remove the bullet-proof glass they use to protect themselves from would-be assailants. The controversial legislation calls for more rules related to seating, public restrooms and what the stores sell. It also sets up for the possible removal of bulletproof barriers used inside Philadelphia convenience stores.  It may eventually force business owners to remove the protective glass.

Councilwoman Cindy Bass says that many of these stores exploit legal loopholes, letting them operate as restaurants while simply selling alcohol. Bass also said it was unfair to only have the bulletproof barrierswhich are only targeted at certain neighborhoods.

“We want to make sure there isn’t this sort of indignity, in my opinion, to serving food through plexiglass only in certain neighborhoods,” she said.

Store owners pleaded for the right to keep the bullet-proof barriers, according to Fox News
