in generality.....lots of intertwined parts...each and an impact my bottom line has always been the war was not fought over slavery...it was a war of independence that Lincoln opposed even though he had no right to and he violated the Constitution to do so...slavery  was an afterthought....it never was about that...which kind of exposes the argument that the North wanted to end it and the South didn't...in fact one Union General was quoted as saying if his troops ever thought the war was about freeing the slaves they would all desert...
