I've never made money in Oil. Bought BP right after that Deep Horizon disaster and felt it couldn't go down from there, nowhere to go but up. Also had Diamond Offshore and the ticker OIL Even had a EFT for the oil industry.
Murdered on Diamond and licked my wounds all the way out the door.
OIL was very volatile and when oil went up OIL went up a little. When crude went down a little OIL cratered. I got out again.
The EFT I had been so bruised that I sold a call like hey, if it goes to $19 I am out and early in Biden it did. I think I missed the run up.
BP? Never went anywhere. I think I bought it for an average of about $38 maybe? It's at $36 now. Pays about a 4-5% dividend and I have basically collected that for 15 years. I mean it could be worse. Basically means I have made 4-5% a year every year on that stock and the price went nowhere. They obviously got killed on the Gulf of Mexico thing, and just when they recovered they got killed in Ukraine or Russia. Had a big partnership with Putin and Russia for their oil or some project that was worth about $15 billion and they got to walk away from it after the invasion. Putin took it over and laughed all the way to the bank. Commie.
I had inside info on a company named Pacific Ethanol once. I don't think they exist anymore. They had a big project in the Valley and dad's company was all hot and heavy into it. I wished I had money and looking back and probably glad I didn't have any. Could have gotten in trouble I bet. And it went way up when everyone got excited about ethanol (remember that? Add that to the list of flash in the pans I listed for you previously) and then I think it crashed.
I should ask my Dad about all those Millions his company made on paper and how "once in a lifetime" their windfall was. Hmmm, maybe I should just leave that one alone.
We could all learn at the feet of Pelosi when it comes to playing the market - Java, BB, San C, everyone.
