So this is about money. This is about performance. This is about not being stupid and saying oh I’ll spend $40 million on snell and $70 million on Soto. No. This is workable.
1 retain buehler because if he continues his health he’s an elite arm. Mets thought 3.8 mil. Not now. I’d thought 8 mil. After the series I hear $12 now. So I would suggest $10mil base with $5-$8 more incentives. And a year two team option for $17.5 million.
2. Teoscar is 33 and played for $25 mil. I’d do a 3 year $75 million deal with year 3 being a team option.
3 so far imo we haven’t spent any extra $$
4 goodbye Miguel Rojas. No room for you here. Not at 5.8 mil. Great guy. This is a business
5 kiermayer thank you for retiring because you’d be cut. Same with Hudson with his 6.5 mill. contract. And Austin Barnes. Bye guys Knack goes back to aaa and Honeywell if he’s cheap can be a long man.
6 Chris Taylor needs to leave. Soon. Fast. Kike and edman are that guy now and need to make room for youth. He has one year left on his deal. May need to throw in a prospect to get someone to take his contract. Find where you’re deep and do it.
7 Tommy edman is on the last year of his arbitration negated deals and I think makes $8 million. Not only is that much cheaper than Willy Adames would cost. It’s a very reasonable number for a guy who can play quality, shortstop quality centerfield. And probably a couple of Enfield positions. Very smart player can deliver you a ground ball a flyball or a bunt when you need to. Switch hitter. This is a very good baseball player. He’s the SS and he only makes 2.2 mil more than Rojas. Huge upgrade.
The money we’ve saved on Hudson and Rojas and signing Walker and having edman and kopech under run it back deals means we are money ahead right now.
8 max Muncy made $10 mill plus incentives which this year probably meant $10. I think max is lucky to get a one year deal for the same amount for his age 35 season with injuries and production decline he’s had
9 bring back flaherty for 3 years $63-70 mil. He didn’t pitch like an ace post season. Very inconsistent. But season era of 3.19. That means he’s a shade under elite and would give LA 7 starters. 7 very fragile starters. He loves La and the deal would be fair. It would give La the top 4-5 man in mlb and for a reasonable price.
10–address CF. Is your future pages? Outman? If not then package them with Taylor to dump his salary and get a live arm for the pen or a prospect. Both need to play somewhere. And la needs a productive cf. imo this is the only real need la needs to address.
I think utility guys to replace kiermayer. Hudson. Rojas come from the minor league system. I think you resign kike for $4 million. There’s one utility guy.
If you read what I did I didn’t spend a lot of extra money. If any. I think you get a cf from somewhere. Get more bullpen arms and you shore up your starting P. More next post
So if we do the above our starting rotation is
Glasnow
Ohtani
Buehler
Yamamoto.
Flaherty
Kershaw
Gonsolin
You can make an argument to trade Tony but wait. Let’s see who is behind them
Gavin stone. Out till 26 TJ
river Ryan. Ditto
Emmet Sheehan ditto ditt
Unreal bad luck to have 3 TJ on top arms like this all in 3 months
Dustin may.
Landon knack
So I run a 6 man rotation as the two Japanese are used to. P once a week. And in those too 7 pitchers you’re looking at 5 very real very recent major arm injuries. And that’s me not knowing if flaherty has had one. So we go on the assumption someone always need a skip or is sore or tweaked a calf. And I hate to say it but history tells us one of those 7. Maybe up to 3-4 of them are gonna have major arm issues.
So if you think that way and realize the guys behind them are all in the shelf for 2025. And Landon knack needs a year at AAA. That leaves Dustin May. Who has thrown about 3 innings in 4 years and who is send to the pen.
so with that stunning drop off if I am la I sign all those arms. Everyone of them. And have a rotation of 7 guys for as long as they’re healthy.
Kershaw is having two more surgeries. Getting old sucks.
