Understanding the choices teams. Not just la. Are making between ripping up boys arms. For that extra 2-3 mph. And spin rate. And knowing they’re treating them all like cattle. Knowing the end result.
And then knowing the kids are lining up knowing this is part of the deal? Knowing they’re all going to end this way?
To be honest it guts me. I’ve coached these guys. Know their dreams. Coached one who lives with us every summer through colleges. P D2 or 3 Has a mountain of student debt now and works at Whole Foods. This is real. And I’ve named the guys who we sent to d1 and pros. To think that teams are choosing to do this to these boys. And I swear. We were so careful with their arms. Never had a arm injury in all our years. Shut down anyone sore. Corrected mechanics. Rotated even in practice.
To see them just treated like meat. Cannon fodder. It takes a lot of joy out of watching this game right now. I’m telling you. I want to puke every time I hear about a Dustin May. Emmet Sheehan. Tony Gonsolin. And Ryan. And there’s more. It’s just constant now
They'll have to extend the pitch clock an extra five seconds at least. Start there. It's not just time between pitches. The games go faster so time between innings also contributes to the lack of rest pitchers get in-game.
The biggest culprit is likely the league's love affair with velo, throw as hard as you can, with as many pitches as you can. Then we'll see you in 15 months, if you're lucky.
Tommy John is like the George Soros of MLB.
Kudos Java. You’ve been calling this like your in the Clubhouse.
Also appreciate your insight on how/why this keeps happening. Makes alot of sense. What league values and How they burn through young arms.
I dont think the fast pitch count helps either. At all.
