Dodgers make qualifying offer to Teoscar Hernández & opt against offering one to Walker Buehler

The qualifying offer is a one-year contract worth the average of the top 125 salaries, or $21.05 million this offseason, according to ESPN. To be eligible for the qualifying offer, a free agent must have spent the entire 2024 season with one team and have never received the qualifying offer previously.

Hernandez was the second most valuable player in the World Series. His batting average was actually higher than Freeman's. And to say he was clutch is an understatement. It would be a shame to see him leave the Dodgers.

Where does all this money come from? If you combine all of the payrolls of all MLB teams, it's higher than the GDP of most nations on the planet. Can it ALL be from TV?

Well, you're obviously familiar with those Topps trading cards. I remember the ones from the '60s, where they'd sometimes have a miniature cartoon near the stats, with text reading something like "Bob sells insurance during the off-season." And then there'd be a little cartoon of some guy wearing a suit but with shoulder pads and a helmet and carrying a briefcase, on someone's doorstep. The door-to-door insurance salesman.
