Obviously not the dominating team they were. But they were in first and had this stretch:
NL Champion Phillies for 3-sweep
Sd on the road for 3 Won Series
NL Central leading Milwaukee for 3 on the road Won Series
SD Home for 3 Swept series
AL Central Leading Twins for 3. Won Series
STL on road for 4 lost 3.
NL best Record ATL on road for 3 Won Series
MLB best record TB on road for 3. Split so far.
That is an absolutely brutal stretch. Unreal. SD, Brewers, Twins, ATL, TB. Wow. Anyone they DIDN'T play that's great? They get the Yankees for 3 next weekend. It's like MLB just lined up every great team for the month of May for LA.
Despite all that. Dodgers are playing 604 ball 2 in front of AZ who I think is a Mirage. 4.5 in front of Frisco who is probably fortunate to be slightly above .500. And 7.5 up on the disappointing failing underachieving Madres.
I can't imagine LA will have any stretch of the season as difficult as this and to emerge from it with their young team. Injured pitchers and the loss of some stars and even guys like Lux. Yet here they are in first again. Amazing tribute to greatness of the Dodger system to produce a team like this. This despite the fact they are still eating Bauer's deal and paying off a couple other guys as their deals end.
They may not be the overpowering team we've seen but you get the impression this is a team that's rebuilt on the run
Dodgers have an issue with their core/returning players not hitting So far. Betts, Muncy, Chris Taylor, Austin Barnes are way under .250.
Freddie has been incredible.
Thank goodness for timely hitting This year. Betts, JD Martinez, Muncy have all had their moments.
Syndgaard has been stealing checks for what 4 years. Poor guy is donzo. Will be nice for Dodgers arms to get healthy…..
Good post, Java. I hadn't realized this stretch has been that brutal.
