OK, here are the contracts I am hearing that will be out there, and this only concerns the Dodgers as I don't care about Soto, who was just offered $660 million by the Mets. Not sure how many years, but if true given how early it is, I would guess 15 years
Jack Flaherty-looking at 3 years $60 million. Given his ERA was a 3.17 and he will be 29 this year? He's had fairly low usage until this year with shoulder and oblique problems in 20-22. Got about 8-9 stars a year. But to get a guy whose numbers indicate a potential 2-3 starter? He's RHP so that's a negative, but loves LA and would love to stay. This is a good bargain
Teoscar Hernandez-signed a prove it 23.5 million deal with LA for one year. He will play only as a 32 year old this coming season, having turned it 10/15. Solid year for LA great personality, loves LA. Surprising to me he's only projected to get 3 years and 70-71million. Which is basically the contract he signed with LA times 3. I run, don't walk to get him signed to that. You did it last year not knowing the result or how he'd hit in the LA lineup or at DOdger Stadium. Now you do, and you get him at the same price? DO IT.
Walker Buehler-no one increased their value this post season or maybe in one game, more than WB. Because of his poor regular season performance after he slowly came back from TJ2, he was getting lit up in the minor leagues and sporting a 6.0 ERA and thought he might be left off the MLB roster. Midway through the playoffs he was looking at a 2025 one year prove it deal for 3.8 million. That is way low and I would sign him the rest of his life for that. That one game was worth that. Anyway. NOW? Now suddenly he has suitors and he is looking at a 3 year $54 million deal. Yikes, that's super close to Flaherty money and Flaherty hasn't had one Tommy John much less two. I would think long and hard on this one, and if that third year is a team option, I might. I would feel MUCh better about a $ 8 million guarantee, a second year at $12 million if he meets work numbers, and a 3rd year team option at $18 million if he proves durable.
Max Fried-no clue why a lefty ace with modest, not major injury history (who doesn't have it) is being discounted. But Fried who loves LA and grew up wanting to P for LA, is looking at 6 years $136 million. He's had one TJ. But his stuff is electric and LA could pace him with their pitching depth. He will be 31 this coming year. I sign him for that. That's 22.5 million a year. Bargain for top level talent
Willy Adames-projecting to 6 years $160 million or 7 years $189 million. Absolutely no what. Guy bats .245 and has great power for a SS. Defense has fallen off quite a bit. He's 29. Not bad. Strikes out a ton. So we have power, not a great average but OK for a SS. Lot of strikeouts and a guy who used to be a huge defensive plus glove now is basically average. I don't see the value in these numbers and if I am LA I pass. I think you can get the same production with less power from Tommy Edman and Rojas. I think Rojas and Edman probably give you 12 HR, not 30. Better D, or at least a push. and will hit about 260 not 245.
Blake Treinan is projected to head to Philly on a one year $10 million deal. I know Friedman isn't a massive fan of paying bullpen but $10 million is barely going rate. LA pays guys $5 million to sit around and heal for a year and then another $5 million to rehab. Blake is great and $10 million they should hand him as fast as they can. He's 37 but LA uses him sparingly. and well
If I am LA, I sign Teoscar, Treinan, Fried, and either Buehler or Flaherty quick Flaherty if he will go 3 years and $60mil or less. Buehlar if her cobbles together an incentive laden deal. Adames is not a star, won't sell tickets or sponsorships and barely helps on the field.
And yes, snag Sasaki. That gives you one lefty, Fried. FLaherty/Walker. Glasnow, Yamamoto, Sasaki, and Ohtani and Kerhsaw on the mend. And means Gonsolin May and Bobby Miller are trade bait.
Nice position to be in TBH. Good to be king The rotation I picture above goes 5-7 deep and can allow for the usual season ending injury or two. And still could be fantastic
Lmao. I wouldnt ever mention Flaherty as an ace and thats why I didnt. Reach harder. 🤦♂️
I watched Buelhers Game 3 and I explained it above. SS not getting at least one out when he possibly could have gotten two hurt WBs stats.
Now do NLCS and WS for Yamamoto and Buehler….
