Please let me know when I said Manny Machado sucks. I will say that he gets less out of his talent than anyone else in baseball. I will say his attitude sucks. I will say he encourages sucky attitude in teammates. I will say he is generally regarded as a horrible person. I will say he’s emblematic of the bad attitude of the modern athlete. I will say he is overpaid. I will say he is overrated. I will say that I did not want him on the team when the Dodgers traded for him and I was happy to see him go and I hope he’s never a dodger again. I will say that he doesn’t hustle which means that he gains nothing extra on effort. I will say that the turning point of the last game of the World Series when Mookie Betts hustled out the slow grounded at first never would have happened if Manny had been batting.

I don’t remember saying that he sucks just that he’s unlikable and a butt hole and doesn’t stop running his mouth. And upon rereading that I can completely see why you like him. You two are soulmates.

Just to be fair. Looking at things from the Red Sox side

Happy Connor Wong Day. Connor batted 280 and was horrible defensively. His WAR is 1.1. They traded Verdugo for an OK pitching prospect named Fitts.

Jeter Downs, a SS was part of that trade and is now playing in Japan.

So the Sox have an OK hit first bad D catcher and an OK pitching prospect to show for it.

Dodgers have two World Championships and whatever happens in the next 7 years Betts is signed for. My prediction is that by the time this drunken spending spree comes to an end. When Shohei, Freddie, Max, Mookie all get old and LA is still paying through the nose for them and they decline, they will have won 2 more Championships. For a total of 4 in this era. Well worth it. We are about halfway through that and after this year will likely have 3 of those 4.

What's funny about life is you never know how good things are until they have passed. Meaning last year everyone is calling LA a failure. $$ for first round exits. Astro cheating. 2017 and 2018. 111 wins in 2022 and Padre loss. 107 wins in 2023 D Back loss. Now they win one, looking at another and suddenly what yesterday smelled like lost opportunity now you can actually see the end of the road and the end of this thing from here. Sort of like the Chiefs I suppose.

Glory in life is fleeting. Enjoy it while you can. It's going to be a great year. By the end of the decade it may very well suck.

Yes, enjoy this while you can. In 5 or so years there will be a decline in excellence due to aging of the stars, the amount we are paying them when they are declining, and after they retire with deferred money. Not to mention probably a more restrictive CBA because of the Dodgers. We are in the middle of our golden era. It won't last forever.
