Wish I wouldve seen him play. Big push right now to retire his number league wide. I bet it happens. With his tragic death its Easy to get behind the idea.

I don't see that happening. He was a nice man who died in a tragic act but died stupidly and needlessly. In some ways his naïveté caused his own death. Read the story. Great case of heart kills head. Was probably a liberal
In Little League.....I always swung Roberto Clemente's Louisville Slugger Bat......it had no "knob" at the end of the handle....the handle just smoothlly flared out at the end (like bell-bottom cuffs). Easier for me to grip and swing. Clemente also had one of the best throwing arms of any outfielder ever...a total cannon!
As a kid who watched every MLB AS game in the 60's I always felt sorry for the American league having to face a National league that featured Clemente in RF, Mays in CF and Aaron in LF. I can still picture Clemente throwing a bullet from RF. STUD at 170 pounds.
Hard to believe he has not been inducted. I have only seen him play in YouTube videos as well. 3000 hits is a guaranteed entry into the hall of fame. Only 33 players have ever done it.
Retiring the number league wide has only been done for #42. Clemente was certainly a great player and a great human being who died in the service of others. But I don't know..
