Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Thursday that right-handed reliever Joe Kelly will not be on the World Series roster when Game 1 begins Friday night at Dodger Stadium.
Kelly, whoās dealing with a right shoulder injury and hasnāt pitched since late September, will not be added to the World Series roster on Friday. However, Roberts did say he could be a candidate to join the roster as an injury replacement down the line if the situation arose.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts addressed reporters on Tuesday afternoon via Zoom and gave updates regarding a few injured players.
First baseman Freddie Freeman should be ready to go for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday against the New York Yankees.
Roberts also stated that infielder Gavin Lux is expected to be a āfull goā for the World Series after dealing with a hip flexor injury during the NLCS. Meanwhile, shortstop Miguel Rojasās status remains unclear, as he missed the NLCS due to an adductor strain.
āI really feel that it was the right decision not having him on the CS [roster], given his health,ā Roberts said. āHeās made some strides. I know heās going to do everything he can to be on the World Series roster, but we still got to be certain that he can run, he can defend the way he can defend. So Iām hopeful, but not certain right now.ā
Lux was limited in the NLCS against the New York Mets which opened the door for Chris Taylor to see more playing time.
Taylor started two games against the Mets and went 3-for-7 with two runs scored, one walk, one stolen base, and one strikeout.
āI think we did a good job of trying to pick our spots to get him in there, to get a pinch-hit here, but not to kind of regress with the hamstring, the hip flexor,ā Roberts said of Lux over Zoom. āI think that with these days off, come Friday he should be a full go.ā
Lux only started two games against the Mets and went hitless in six at-bats with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. The four games he didnāt start happened to be against left-handed starters which is when he sat during the regular season.
The 35-year-old infielder hasnāt played since Game 3 of the NLDS and while playing in the World Series would be a dream come true for him, there might not be a roster spot for him.

Rojas might have a more difficult time making the World Series roster after Tommy Edman was named the Most Valuable Player of the NLCS and KikƩ Hernandez continued doing October things.
