It’s time for a Brent Honeywell appreciation post. Honeywell put up a 2.63 ERA in 37.2 innings this year while going back and forth from AAA to MLB. Honeywell was DFA’d on August 18th. Instead of electing free agency and trying to get picked up elsewhere, he accepted an assignment to AAA. He came back up played a large role. By eating innings, he helped get the Dodgers to the playoffs while as healthy as possible. Honeywell was left off the NLDS roster. Instead of whining about it, he got to work. Honeywell threw live BP to prepare for the Padres series. Max Muncy said that he might’ve gotten Mookie Betts going. Honeywell said he “…fed [Mookie] shit right down the middle and told him to crank it out of the ballpark”, and he told all three batters he faced, “I’m throwing it down the middle and I want you to hit it as far as you can.” Keep in mind, this was a guy who was still trying to compete to make the roster in a future series. He was willing to make himself look worse to help other guys build confidence and perform. Only because of an injury to Alex Vesia, Honeywell made the NLCS roster. He had a 4.70 ERA in the series, and yet, he was one of the most important Dodgers. In Game 2 of the NLCS, Honeywell contributed three great innings and kept the Dodgers in the game. Just four days later, he was needed again. Honeywell threw 4.2 innings on 67 pitches while on 3 days rest. He said he was going to pitch until Dave Roberts ripped the ball from his hand. Honeywell risked his own health and numbers to help the team. This allowed the Dodgers to rest their higher leverage arms and load up for the next two games to put themselves in the best position to finish the job. In game 6, the higher leverage arms were needed. The rested relievers came out and did their job. Now, the Dodgers are moving on to the World Series. Brent Honeywell is the epitome of a selfless teammate. He’s a guy who does the things to win that most people don’t pay attention to. He’s not going to be the guy who closes out the World Series. But he IS a damn DAWG.

And he’s one of the ones who might be dropped if vesia or graterol comes back. Agree with you though.
It’s the little stuff.
