angels predate doyers (in la) but as a minor league team In PCL. Doyers predate angels as a MLB team here in LA. By just a few years tho. Dodgers played at coliseum while Chavez ravine was built. Then angels played in Chavez with Doyers while Anaheim was built in early 60’s.
Thank you Wiki.
I guess your hat could be for the PCL LA Angels which were here when Brooklyn Dodgers were in...well Brooklyn!
The MLB Angels played their first season in Wrigley Field, at 42d and Avalon. It was the park where the PCL Angels had played and also the setting for Home Run Derby. Great place to watch a game because it was a real hitters' park and they were playing in an expansion year with watered-down pitching. That's what made it the perfect place for Home Run Derby.
I became an Angels fan when the AL announced it was expanding to L.A., because I hated the Dodgers so much and wanted a team I could root FOR.
The first Angels game I attended was a game against the Red Sox in 1961, the year after Ted Williams retired. As I was going through the turnstile with my dad and uncle, my uncle told me to turn around and ask the guy behind me to autograph my glove. It was Ted Williams, and he did.
The Dodgers used to own Wrigley Field. They traded it to the City for the land in Chavez Ravine. Pretty good deal.
Crazy talk no? Maybe not.
