Billy Buckner Rizzo New York benefitted from one of those plays oh so many years ago And now will live with their own moment of an aging hurt 1b who couldn’t make the play or wouldn’t
what is interesting to me is that in the playoffs and especially into the World Series? This very situation crossed my mind and I feared it. But the subject of my fear was actually Freddie Freeman.
What’s weird is his first instinct he moves. He really does do what he’s supposed to. Hes not fast. But he just quits. I mean that was a total lack of effort and hustle. Mookie was hustling. And as a righty that’s impressive
If you’ve ever been to spring training. That is a back field drill that P hate that they make them run hundreds of times. And the guys complain about it. But they run it so many times that it becomes automatic.
What’s funny? Is that if you ever coach or play those positions You realize it’s not easy. There is a lot of timing involved and it takes quite a while to get it right.by the time you see it on TV. It looks easy like a little underhanded toss.
The key is that for any ball that’s hit to the right side. The P needs to start breaking toward first base and after two or three steps figure out whether he’s going to be part of the play. It’s super important to get to the line and then run parallel to it toward the base instead of getting to the base first. You get your hands up early to show the 1b it’s ok to toss and give him a target. You don’t run from mound to base because the angle makes it too hard. You have to catch ball at same time as getting to base and by going at that angle create a collision potentially w runner. So go parallel. Hands up. Catch ball. Step on base. Run through. Cut inside
Cole? Stood there? Watched ball go by him. Slowly. Giving Betts who is fast. A couple free steps. I think he was relieved he induced the slow grounder after that inning. Look at the film. He really didn’t move u til the ball was to Rizzo and that’s way too late. And the. Rizzo quit. Not even an effort. I didn’t get that either.
that entire play was just amazing. Rizzo needs to retire. Not sure he’s ever been a good glove but at the plate now he’s become max Muncy but instead of the occasional hr he dives into pitches. And crowds the plate. Inviting it.
After this series I hate their ss volpe. Hate Soto. Hate that trashy wanna be 3b Chisholm. Who should have been ejected about every other pitch for the entire World Series. I don’t think there was a call that he didn’t gripe about. What a little Barbie . Mostly I’m thankful they all just suck and only work on batting practice
