Sign Ohtani, trade for a topline starter like Burnes, and sign an additional 2-3 starter like Nola or Montgomery. You could take a flyer on a once, and recent, high-end and now cheaper guy like Flaherty. Snell and Yamamoto come into play if Ohtani signs elsewhere. But two starters are necessary and at least one has to be an ace(in 2024 so Ohtani doesn't count).

My opinion is they should sign an ace, and as you said, sign or trade for a mid level guy. Identify which of the 8 guys I mentioned above they think are goign to be healthy and high level arms. They might think Grove or Stone or whoever is a future 4-5. Not good enough IMO

They need to keep and develop guys who can be 1-3 starters High level arms. Not sure Gonsolin is one. When he, Urias and Buhler were all coming up he was regarded as the throwaway. The wakest one. I doubt any of the injured guys have trade value but any of the 5 MLB ready guys listed second do. So I would use them as bait.

Me? I sign a 1-2 guy. Count on Buhler coming back. Trade for or sign a 3 guy. And then among Gonsolin, May, Miller, Pepiot, etc I would find two others and count on two always rotating in and out due to injury or rest or whatever. That would mean you'd be 7 deep. Kershaw doesn't play into any of this. If I am them I let him go.

The emaining 3 I would either send to AAA or use as trade bait if they have others coming up. Supposedly they had a great staff at AA last year, so this year they should be in AAA and be almost MLB ready Perfect to back up the group I mentioned above.

Buehler will be back, May and Gonsolin will not I understand. Gonsolin's injury was later in the year. May I heard just yesterday is not looking good for 2024, at this point.

Kershaw cannot be counted on in the rotation for 2024. Although pitching half the season might work out better for him, like Clemens did late in his career. Also rumblings that he may go to Texas when he returns in summer. TBD

So we have Miller, Buehler, Sheehan or Pepiot for your top three. That's a lot of question marks relating to injury and youth. Grove, Stone, maybe Pepiot, will be spot starters(6-7-8 range) I think. You need about 8-10 guys you can count on to start these days. Some will be parked in OKC until needed.

So I think we need to acquire two solid guys(an Ace and a 3) in the offseason.
