Its interesting if you think about it....they play the same game as the boys but with key modifications and it results in a better product.
Pitcher's Mound is Closer
Ball is Larger
Not sure why throwing motion is changed but its worked out fine
Bases are closer
Outfield is smaller
All practical solutions if you think about it....whoever had the foresight to do this was pretty smart and it made the game faster and better. I think womens hoops would be better if a lower rim. I know ball is smaller.
I coached my daughter's team for years and some of the girls on our teams over the years went to Oklahoma, ucla (Spaulding) and washington. It's fun to watch live but boring as hell on tv. My $.02. The Spaulding kid Delaney was such a nice kid, youngest of four girls. Older sister went to Oklahoma, middle sister was a stud pitcher at North Carolina but Delaney was the best of the bunch. Great family.
Softball at the youth age through HS at least involves more strategy than baseball at the same age. More hit and run, defensive adjustments, stealing, bunting. Just overall strategy. We ended every practice with bunting drills and stations. Bunting is a major part of the game at that level.
