Roberts is considering another bullpen game. At least he was last night. With the starting pitching issues it's a plausible idea.

Last night I thought they were using Brasier against the top of the lineup for matchup reasons. Then let Knack come in. Breeze through 5-9 and then go batter by batter with him when he faced the top for the first time. Fully warmed up, in the 4th. And if they needed to pull him then they got 2-3 out of him and with the opener got to the 4th or 5th

I was very surprised what they did. Good for Roberts. That took a lot of guts.

You could try the same with Yamamama I like the idea of a situational guy taking out the top of the Padre lineup. What was interesting was that I commented to the wife that the Padres were running out of time in like the 6th inning. It was by then 5-0. She was befuddled.

I explained that at this pace, the top of the Padre lineup was only going to come up again one more time in the 8th or the 9th and if they trailed by 5 at that point, the game was over.

Phillips retired Profar, Johnny Hustle and Jackson merrill on 5 pitches. Best outing Phillips has had for a long time. And that sent the Padres to the bottom of the lineup for the 7th. By the time the lineup rolled over again the Padres were down 8-0 and it didn't matter what they did.
