Arizona makes history again.

I believe they first made history, by being the first team, seated two to lose to a 15 when they managed to bow down to the Richmond spiders, who would bear down

fast forward to 2023. Arizona breaks new ground. Becoming the first team again in uncharted two vs 15 failure territory.

I kind of agree with you if you're talking about the last 20 years. But historically, it's not even close. USC basketball hasn't been to a Fnal Four in almost 70 years. They haven't won the conference outright in 42 years, which is a lot longer than UCLA football, which won the conference in 1998. 25 years, which admittedly is way too long.

But I'm also talking about the national conversation. There have been stretches even in the last 20 years where UCLA football was in the national conversation. USC basketball is almost never in the national conversation. They had a good season a couple of years ago. But they're not even really thought of as anything other than a football school. Maybe baseball once upon a time. Water polo, sure. But even UCLA football is talked about from time to time. Even last season. Also, UCLA football fans may not fill up the Rose Bowl, but they want UCLA to win a lot more than USC basketball fans, what few there are. USC basketball fans don't really care. How often does Gayland sell out, or even come close? USC loses in the first round of the tourney and it's kind of like, whatever. If they beat UCLA, even once, it's a good season. If they beat them twice, it's time to hang a banner.

Sure, USC puts guys in the NBA, but UCLA puts guys into the NFL too. And if you want to talk about conference championships, UCLA football has won far more than USC basketball has, historically, and it's not close.

UCLA is serious about football, they're just not very good at it. I don't think USC basketball is all that serious. I think Enfield cares. I think the players care. But I don't think anybody else does. If they did, they would actually schedule some decent teams in non-conference games. Why is it that USC was, at one point, about 16-4 or thereabouts, but they weren't even ranked, even though there were a lot of other teams with similar or even worse records who were in the top 25? USC basketball wasn't ranked the entire season, and that's because they just don't really seem to take the sport seriously, which is why nobody else does.

This site is proof positive. You and Pasadena and maybe MLK care, but I'm not even sure about you. It's like, if USC wins, great. If not...yawn.

Well usc has indeed has a couple elite 8 teams. They have beaten the hell out of a highly rated kansas team a few years ago.

yes they’ve put a lot of guys in the league. A lot. Harold miner was a big deal. So was Mobley. So was oj mayo and derozen and even scalabeine. They’ve had a ton of guys come through and are like top 10 in nba talent.

they’ve shared the conference title a few times and won the tourney 1-2 times. Obviously I’m not a huge basketball supporter. I have never really liked the way usc played. floyd. Bibby. I like motion offenses like how arizona played. Oops lol

usc has had several top 10 rankings for awhile. A couple top 5 for a few days. I just dont recall ucla football having the same. And other than a brief stretch w Kevin O’Neil and one year of enfield usc doesn’t have losing basketball seasons. Bruins football has had many

Like I said, the last 20-25 years have really skewed UCLA football in terms of perception and overall accomplishment. I wouldn't be surprised if half of those teams had losing seasons.

But the strange thing is, if you look at AP top 25 rankings in football, UCLA still comes in at about number 20 all-time. It's difficult to compare football and basketball at the top level in college, because football only has about 130 teams at that level, and a lot fewer than that decades ago. College hoops has over 300 Division 1 teams. But I doubt if you find USC basketball ranked in the top 25 as often as UCLA football has been. Like I said, that's probably not all that fair of a comparison.

Yeah. Virginia. Another. notorious choker. I believe they are second on the list of teams for losses to 13 seeds or lower but all 3 of theirs are like in the last 5-6 years. If they hadnt won it all in 2019 that coach would be avocado toast

Happened yesterday. 5 years ago. university of maryland Baltimore county. Whatever that Is. didn’t just beat numbe 1 Virginia. Killed them. By 20. I want to say Virginia was even the 1 overall seed that year but not sure.
