There used to be, before divisions. And even after they formed divisions, having the North play the South for the title still kind of made sense...sorta. Unfortunately, now it's completely fucked up in the PAC 12 because it's possible to "win" your division and not even play in the conference title game due to overall record (and a lot of other factors). Which begs the question, why even have divisions? Figuring out last season's top two teams, due to the goofy metrics, was like rocket science.
So, Java's point is well taken, meaning that USC would have been conference champions before all of this nonsense began. But these are really different animals. USC can't claim a Pac-12 championship in football in 2022. UCLA can claim a Pac-12 championship in 2022-23 basketball, even if they don't win that ridiculous tourney, which is just a money grab and really only benefits bubble teams. Even the NCAA and seeding committee knows this.
That said, winning a conference tournament in hoops is not nothing, and they do list winners in the archives even though it's not the same as a conference championship.
USC was regular season football champions
Congrats you MOFO's
Conference Champions.
Bona with the play of the game! How we won despite making one 3 point shot to CO's 7 and getting out rebounded 38-29 is beyond me.
