I think it was a league mandated trade to increase interest in a dying sport.
Interesting background. Getting Luka does make the NBA feel very Laker-friendly. Not that I'm complaining. I have Laker fan friends who think this trade is a bad idea because they had been playing well lately. Pretty funny.
