There is absolutely no comparison to be made here, once you look at the number of games involved for each guy.
Roger Maris had 162 games in which to get 61 home runs, compared to Babe Ruth, who got 60 homers in 154 games. That's a bit tainted, but it is what it is. And it's possible that Ruth may not have hit another homer with 8 extra games, although not probable.
But 143 games vs. 83 games is absolutely absurd when we're talking about hoops. That's almost two full seasons extra. Why is anybody making a big deal out of this?
Maybe Detroit Mercy will be invited to play in the N(ot).I(n).T(ournament).
I remember those Detroit Mercy motherfuckers beat UCLA in the Big Dance in the late 1990s. It was one of Steve Laugh-in's best moments. My MN Gopher friends laughed at me, but I got the last laugh when Minnesota's only regional title (1997 Final Four) in school history was vacated because of academic scandal. Besides, those cocksuckers have appeared in the NIT more times than they've appeared in the NCAA Tournament, and that's no shit (15 NIT invites vs. 14 NCAA invites)! Four conference titles since 1919? Are you kidding me? Get lost, losers. And fuck Golden Gopher Kevin McHale, too! Dirtiest player in NBA history and the biggest bitch.
I do think there needs to be handicaps on these records here with regards to years played, otherwise you are right, this is not the same. I feel the same way about DTR's record BTW, and oh ya, fuck Lebron.
Yeah, DTR had 49 games to get those stats, compared to 40 for Brett Hundley and 47 for Cade McNown. Still quite an accomplishment for DTR, but it's pretty unreal what Hundley was able to do in only 3 seasons, when you think about it.
What’s amazing is Pete did this prior to the shot clock rule. Opposing teams would go into the stall running minutes off the clock just to keep the ball away from the great scorers.
Yeah, but there's some BS tournament they can still be invited to which will probably happen.

Horrible story. Hate this. Been following the last few days
Can't fault the kid, but ya. Pistol Pete was ridiculous.
