RIP HOF Willis Reed

If you watched Willis Reed limp out to start against the Lakers in the 7th game (see the famous pic below-and yes their crowd went WILD) of the NBA championship you knew that the Lakers were in deep ****. I was 12 and I knew it immediately. I’ll miss Willis Reed. Were there better athletes on his team? Yeah. Were there more colorful basketball players on that team. Yes…absolutely. Were there tougher players on his team? Nope and that’s why I’ll miss him.

Likely my favorite pro b-ball game of all time. I was a big Knick, and a bigger Clyde Frazier fan. I loved the way the Knicks moved the ball.

I was a big Laker fan but have to give credit to the Knicks they were such a great team.

DeBusschere, Bradley and never miss Cazzie Russell were some of my favorites from that team.

Frazier was kind of the Joe Namath of basketball in New York wearing fur coats and all the mod clothing back at that time. Amazing player for sure.

In that series with the Lakers I think it was the 2nd or 3rd game at the Forum where Jerry West hit a 60 ft shot at the buzzer to tie it up and force OT. Knicks still ended up winning the game.

I remember that night and how the Lakers ever lost with Wilt Chamberlain is beyond me. Reed didn’t even score that many points but his return jacked the whole team up. Frazier went off for NY and they won in a blowout.
