USC on other hand lost it’s 2 best players from last years run. One was Conference POY and DPOY. The other was all first team (I assume) as well

@Pasadena Trojan Does returning every starter suppose to guarantee you a title? Sometimes the other team is just better. Mick Cronin is not Roy Williams. UNC -- 20 (soon to be 21) regional titles. 3 national titles in the past 20 years. tied for most with Duke and UConn.

When it comes to hoops, you get way more satisfaction out of a UCLA loss than you do a USC win. Don't be such a sore LOSER.

Really good post and that’s exactly why College basketball is the most difficult sport to win a National Championship. I can’t even remember without looking it up the last team to repeat. No Nick Saben type dynasties in this sport that‘s for sure. I know UCLA under Howland went to three final fours in a row one of which was a final just an incredible run.

I think UCLA blew this game. So, in that sense they underachieved. They win this game, they have a clear path to the Final Four again.

But, as I said earlier, I consider the season a relative success when you make the Sweet Sixteen. Anything less is a failure for UCLA in my book. Making the Sweet Sixteen is like finishing ranked in football. It may not be where you ultimately wanted to end up, but it's a relative success. So, it's hard to be critical of this UCLA hoops team because they played hard every game and overcame some adversity of their own, primarily injuries.

Still, it's bittersweet. Good team, but it sucks to end the season with a loss. Every team worth their salt loses their final game -- except one. And that one final victory in NCAA hoops is soooooooo elusive, even for the best teams. Ask Gonzaga. Hell, ask Kentucky -- the best overall team in college hoops history, and they disappeared without a trace this postseason. And yet they'll be back. The good ones always are.
