Be sure to watch the game, tonight, 7:00 pm on Bally's Sports. It's #1 vs #2 in nation. This is going to be a hard fought game. I predict MD wins 34-17. Lots of D-1 talent, 5* and 4* players.
Hah, this was a classic beat down, MD dominated BG in every facet of the game. Scores can be deceiving and last night game could have been much worst. MD had 120 yds in flags/penalties. They got flags for hitting too hard, roughing the QB, etc. MD penalties killed 2 scoring drives (red zone) which would have given them 14 more pts. On BG 2nd TD, they got help with MD penalties. The true score: 45-7
For all the people that say MD is overrated have no clue how good this FB program is. 1-10 with 10 being top score. D = 10+, O = 9. MD team speed = 10, size = 10, skill positions = 9. Man, last year D was 10+ but this year team is a bit off = 10.
Bishop Gorman got beat up, QB, RB, WR got hit and tackled hard. Their 2 QB's are good dual threats, but MD D’s sacked them 6 times and hurried a dozen more times. And, BG OL is one of the best in nation. Good lord MD front 7 manned handled BG OL. BG had a grand total of 150 yds: 100 rushing, 50 yds passing. After the 1st half GB O had 40 yds rushing & 30 yds passing.
MD’s QB, A. Beierly, 4* and rated #5 QB in Calif shook off his 1st game rust, passing for 13/15, 99 yds, 2 TD’s, ran for 50 yds and moved the chains. Beierly is 6-1, 210 lbs, he ran over BG LB’s and shook off DL tackles. He is a strong guy. He had a very good game.
Jordon Davison, 5* RB ran for 122 hard yds + 2 TD’s. It took 3 BG players take him down. MD LB’s of Nasir Wyatt, A.Sanders, S.Scott has to be the best trio in nation. They are very fast, strong and hard tacklers. MD’s DL was a force against BG top OL unit. Man, Tomu Topui, Jr, 6-2, 325 lbs is a man among boys. He should get his 5* after this year. Most of all currently he is leaning towards USC (we must get this one). OL, Kodi Greene is one of the best OL in nation (freaken Ducks getting this OS OL). Bad for MD O, 5* WR Chris Henry got a bad injury, hope it’s not season ending?
There is only one team that can beat this MD and it’s St John Bosco. These 2 will go after the SS CIF title once again. Although, Mission Viejo, Orange Lutheran and J Serra Catholic are very good teams that could upset these 2. Look out for Mission Viejo, they're a very good team this year.
Butkus, is the team good, or do they just have a bunch of really good players? There is a difference. I'm not saying it's either one, I'm legitimately asking because I haven't seen them play.
Whenever I have seen them play, they look like they could beat any D3 college team in the nation simply because they're so big. They seem to make a lot of mistakes, but none of it matters because they're huge and their skill players are fast and they just out-talent the competition, even teams that are supposedly good.
Bruce R. coached there for a million years, and he must have established some sort of system that is unbreakable because this new guy hasn't seemed to miss a bit. OR...again, are they just a collection of the best kids in the state and various parts of the country?
Waldorf, Looks like you’re not from California and do not get to see Mater Dei play on TV? It is true, many HS football experts says Mater Dei is and have been #1 HS FB team for the last 10-12 yrs now. MD is undefeated playing the nations top 10 teams annually. MD always play one to two national ranked teams and beat the convincingly. All the national HS sports media people: Max Prep, ESPN, Cal Prep, Fox Sports, Bally Sports, LA Times, OC Register, Daily Breeze News (South Bay), Daily News (SF Valley), CIF, CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated almost unanimously have voted Mater Dei #1.
Yes, MD has a bevy of talented (5* & 4*) players, 99% from Southern California. But they play as a team. MD has amazing team speed, O & D side, strong, Big OL & DL, skilled and normally a top QB running the show. MD plays very physical brand of FB and they are well conditioned. When, they play out of state teams, after the first 6 minutes of the 1st qt, you can see fear in their eyes. MD sets the tone by hitting very hard.
A key reason for their success, their O scores a lot of points by their well balanced O. They are able to score pts quickly with their passing game, while their Big RB's softens the opposition's front 7. Then, the knockout blow, MD's D is the killer beast which dominates any type of O. Every time teams are behind in pts and tries to rally with an O push, but get stuffed by MD's wicked D. Thus, MD's strong O & D makes them almost unbeatable. Only St John Bosco has the right stuff to beat MD, cause their team is almost a carbon copy of MD makeup.
C LR must do some important things to get his teams up there with UGA, Bama, Ohio St, Michigan, Texas
1. Get his players in the very best FB conditioning (strong, cardio, work on quickness drills, develop tough bodies by hitting hard in practice, drive blocks, hard tackling drills, team gang tackling). Get his team play very physical FB. FB is about physicality. But, C LR teams are soft and do not have cardio (they lose games in the 4th qt due to lack of conditioning). USC's S & C coaches must do a better job.
2. C LR must do a way better job recruiting. He is one lazy recruiter. Stupid too, by not focusing on Calif top players. He is getting smoked by Oregon, Bama, Texas, Texas AM who are stealing all of Calif best FB players. That's FU. If I were AD Cohen, I would put mucho pressure on C LR to get his arse in gear and recruit like hell and put a fence around Calif. Hell, CPC did that back in the 2000's. No coach in the country is any good without top players, period. This 2024 team suffers because it lacks top players and depth.
3. Recruit the best DT type QB's. With the RPO O, a DT QB makes the O go. And, get a Big RB for short yardage situations.
I wonder how a coach can sit in a living room and negotiate wages, signing bonus, et al with a high school young man and his gaggle of consultants and loving posse. GAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Bishop Gorman based upon how poorly MD played in their opener....their QB looked nowhere close to the guys that played before him....perhaps it was just an off night for MD....and they were looking ahead..
This kid attended the LSU/USC game with his family, all of them dressed in USC gear (family huge USC fans). Apparently USC got in late on his recruitment. Question is are they catching up.
Tennessee commit...and they will fork over some dough to keep the kid....any school that will fork out $8M for a HS QB....will spend.... USC is not in that class...
NIL for high school kids is really getting out of hand.
I don't know if USC is gonna be able to compete at that level (you tell me), but most of the teams in FBS are gonna be shit-outta-luck for the foreseeable future. It's gonna be like MLB or the NFL or the NBA -- most of the teams are gonna suck compared to the relative few.
I have mixed feelings about it. I'm glad I was able to watch UCLA when they were a good team, back in the 80s and sometimes in the 90s, and it's rough to know that their best days are forever behind them. But at the same time CFB is becoming so meaningless for all but a few teams that it's not really a sport anymore, so I'm starting to care less and less. I'll never stop caring altogether, but it's not what it once was and never will be again. And even if UCLA ever does scrape together another winning season, it's never going to change the overall picture.

I couldn't agree more. The thrill is gone. We never to join the Ivy league and play with real students.
