Unacceptable. Gasp. Awful. Below the standards of Trojans. Where only a national championship is acceptable and all else is failure. Yes. We’ve been told harbaugh and tot are great coaches. Adults. Fickel too. Peterson as well. Tedford. All of them committed to defense winning and all better choices than Lincoln Riley. All of them experienced at buillllllllding programs. Because Riley was handed a great one. Mmm hmmm. And shoot we should have just hired Mike leach.

so let’s take a look at these coaches shall we?

first let’s look at the child. The non adult. The one our board grump hates as I’ve quoted from his reactive posts

Riley went 55-10. Which is 11-2. Won 4 straight conference championship games and went to the cfp 3 times and a 4th New Years 6 game. Each of his 5 teams finished ranked in the top 10.

he had 2 consecutive heisman winners. Two consecutive nfl overall 1 picks and three straight qb who were nfl first rounders. The 3rd was jalen hurts who finished second in the heisman.

his winning percentage is the highest in ok history and he presently has 3 of the top 15 prospects in the 2023 recruiting class. The 2nd ranked qb. and top ranked athlete and wrs. He had the top ranked transfer class in the nation compiled from November 28 to the first wed in feb.

It's the first of the month...probably had to write those alimony checks and that's why he's angry.

USC has a standard. You apparently don't. USC is either building toward or competing for national championships.

Giving up an average of 54 points a game in the playoffs isn't going to get SC back to it's rightful dominant place in college football.

Riley is a smart guy. I hope he has learned that he just can't outscore good teams.

Not winning a natty in the next five years will be a failure by USC standards.

Jim harbaugh. I will be be generous and not include his stanford record of 29-21

61-24 at u of m. Clearly a power. Harbaugh is an average of 8.7-3.5 per year. Has two top 10 finishes. No heismans no qb or offensive players at top of draft classes. Won his conference for the first time in his 7th year. Won one bowl. Citrus. Year 1. Losing record last year. Lost to his rival a million years in a row. Actually has a habit of losing to msu. Osu and psu. If your name ends in state university you stand a better than even chance of smashing jimbo in the teeth

yes Jim is a real grown up. A real football coach. A genius. And far better than riley. Oh. Of course. No National championships either

Jeff Tedford. This is a good one.

Tedford has never won a major conf erence title in 11 years. He started his career playing for and eventually coaching for Fresno State. And as we know nothing good has ever come out of Fresno. We’ve spent the last 20 years hearing how awful it is. Before we heard how awful stories was. Then spring valley lake was. Then Dana point was. No hate of course

he is 108-71 in 14 years. A record of 7.5-5 per year. Interestingly his best years were 10-2 10-3 and 12-2 which as the thread suggests means even at his best he doesn’t measure up. Tedford didn’t win any major bowls. Never got to a playoff game or had a heisman finalist. He did mentor some great players at Oregon. And developed Aaron Rogers and tent Dilfer As a coach.

Chris Peterson went an average of 9-3 for uw. Won two minor bowl games. Finished in the top 10 once. Made the playoff once. No heismans no too draft picks etc. Nicknamed “small time” on this board. solid coach. But I’m thinking Riley’s resume is quite a bit better.

Not sure what other names were actively realistic or considered but to bad mouth the riley hire? To declare it’s not going to work out for usc? Ok that’s fine. I always wanted to know ever week when we were firing helton who was the alternative. And so it goes with riley

who if not he? Those names suggested just don’t compare. Now. Do I think the move was genius? I dunno. I think when You throw $110, million. $15 million worth of home purchases. And a private jet at someone? I’m not sure that your move is as much genius as it is prolific fundraising and spending.

but If the question is whether usd for a landscape shifting coach? The best available person on the planet to change the trajectory of the program? I believe he is that person without question. And as you can see. The other suggestions pale in comparison.

making the argument otherwise is just arguing for arguments sake. Which I myself enjoy doing. But in this case is a moser before it begins and just silly or stupid. As we have seen the guy has found some nice coaches. Booted dead weight and recruited like a mother. And he’s allowed to hand out cash too. Man is this working out great or what?

i am generously including 21 wins that were vacated when nd was caught Cheating on his watch.

kelly won the camping world. Music city. Citrus and the vacated oi strip bowl championship. He also got to the bcs once and lost.

Clearly superior to riley? Only to someone with rocks for brains
