11/28 USC DC Update

An announcement is still expected this week. Leonhard seems to be in the lead. Allegedly he prefers an NFL job over college but the timing is forcing his hand. USC needs an answer before Dec 4 due to recruiting. NFL jobs won't open up until the NFL season over. Leonhard has been calling people to inquire about working with Riley and living in SoCal. The Texas DC remains the other option but he is in the playoff hunt and may not be available. No news on Lake.

Anyone that can install a solid base defense and then recruit is better thna Grinch.

Solid coach but even if we get him, he probably wont stay long. Could be wrong.

Kwiatkowski is a really good choice. But is occupied as you said. If Texas gets bumped after Saturday night, he might bail.

DJ Durkin is still available. Some don't like the murder I guess. Whatever.🙄

Most guys worth taking are still playing...but some people think it's Riley's fault that guys won't bail in the middle of a playoff run. Go figure. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think people are like oh yeah. Wisconsin. They play good d. Always have.

Not realizing that they always have means maybe it was Barry Alvarez. Maybe it was Dave Aranda. Maybe it was a long long of guys or their offensive style. Maybe it wasn't leonhard. And since he's never coached anywhere else we wouldn't know that would we?

The guy went from nfl to college coaching. Red flag.

I realize that Dave Aranda is not an option. But look at his résumé. He started as a JV football coach at Redlands high school when he was 19. Then he coached at cal Lutheran. Which is just nowhere. But you learn to teach. To coach. Aranda didn't start out where he got to pick the best talent. Redlands jv? My gosh. Cal Lutheran? And then he built from there. Clearly he's grown. He's learned. He's stepped up the ladder. I don't see that w this guy

You skipped Justin Wilcox who preceeded Leonard...since I only witnessed Wilcox at USC I would say based upon that are you sure they've alays plaed good D....I guess 10 years in the NFL as an undrafted player who was in Wisky's HOF as a DB didn't count for anything or the fact that e spent time with Aranda under his tutledge before he was hired as the DB coach and from there wet on to be the DC ...let me add he played for a lot of teams in the NFL and got exposed to a lot of defensive coaches and DC's...before he decided to get into coaching. Let me also add Wisky is not known for having elite players on their defense...so obviously he developed them into good players in the five years he was there..

No, "spending time with" greatness does not make you great. Doesn't not make you an innovator or a creator.

The dude has coached at ONE place. ONE. And got the head coach fired there last year.

I don't think he's a terrible hire but by no means am I assured Wisconsin defensive success was anything he did. Barr Alvarex had a great D tradition. Dave Aranda is brilliant. Justin Wilcox. Then Leonhard. He stood on the shoulders of others. I'd like to see someone who built something himself.
