58 yards of total offense??

That's how many yards Serra produced on offense against Mater Dei in the entire state title game!!

I know that Mater Dei is good, perhaps REALLY good. But how does an offense only produce 58 total yards against them? That's gotta be a record. Either that Serra team is made up of disabled kids coached by total retards, or Mater Dei is like a FCS program. Either way, it's bullshit!

It looks like Northern California has pretty much given up on football. If that Serra team is the best they can provide, they should start playing soccer instead.

That's against Bosco in the CIF finals. Mater Dei destroyed them too. Returning the favor from the regular season(Mater Dei's lone loss). If they just played each other only I'd be fine with the competitive balance.

easily the best team in Northern California. They were great offensively and defensively. They have 6/7 D-1 prospects. Mater Dei has 40. That's the answer to your question. Given the talent differential as a Serra San Mateo Serra grad I think keeping the score to 35-0

Versus Mater Dei was ok considering just how good Mater Dei is . Mater Dei and Bosco have really ruined the big division state playoffs the last few years. Serra should be in the next highest division and they probably would have one it. And you wouldn't be saying some ignorant things. Are you a Mater Dei graduate.

Switch the coaches and the score would be the same. Talent differential is that great. Serra doesn't become the premier high school football team with a dufous as coach. Walsh played for and learned his football under the legendary De La Salle coach who won 158 straight games at De LA Salle. Your judgement of him is wwwwaaaaayyyy off base

Well, I'm a Catholic and I have a small weiner, so you may be onto something.

It's been that way for a while though. When I was a kid, Servite and St. Paul were the big powerhouses (MD too, but not like today), and you didn't have to be Catholic to go there. And I'm not just talking about athletes either. Sometimes people would send their kids there because they knew that the priests and sisters wouldn't take any shit from the kids, and they did get an excellent college prep education.

Today, I'm sure it's much more about the ball. It pays the bills.

No idea. San Joaquin memorial. SJM. Or memo. Had 5-6 black kids. All top athletes. All magically converted Catholics. At least during the week. Still remember 3-4 of their names.

It's where Jerry Tarkanian started. Probably where he learned to cheat. Funny too. 20 years later Ramon esquival had similarly amazing success and I want to say he too went into the college ranks and got run through a meat grinder after he got caught cheating.

Anyway. None paid tuition. All played multiple sports.

But they had like a quota. One per sport it seemed. Now they have one per position. Per year per sport. Or something like that

Again, I don't think being Catholic has been a requirement for decades and decades. But I'm sure the kids still have to take a Jesus 101 class and study plays while everyone else reads the Gospels.
