Ewers is a good player and was consensus #1 QB coming out of HS. And has lived up to the billing.

Sark walked into a really good situation and his time With Saban seems to have helped him understand that side of the ball alot better. Same with Kiffen actually.

Their agent was smart to get them there

Under his tutelage.

I fear Riley needs Saban boot camp as well. Im actually certain of it. And that pisses me

Texas has always had access to the best linemen in the country on both sides of the ball and has the strongest NIL backing in all of CFB but he's always been a great recruiter. That having been said, he coached under Carroll so I don't think it's that he understands the importance of defense better now but rather Saban forced him to clean up his life. Same with Kiffin.

In 10 years as a HC, Sark has never won a conference title, much less played for one (although that'll probably change this year). For all of Riley's faults, he does have a history of improving programs and getting them into contention for titles even if he still falls short. He's also never been at a program that had a recent history of good defenses so I say let's see who is brought in and what happens.

That might be true but one could argue that he also elevated them to a higher point to regress from. In the last game OU played before LR was hired on as OC, they were losing 40-0 to Clemson until 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter. They also gave up 30+ points 7 times that year, including a blowout loss at home to Baylor 48-14.

The year before he took over as HC in 2016, OU gave up 59 points and 854 yards to an eventual 5-7 Texas Tech team in a single game (Iowa State beat that same TTU team with Patrick Mahomes 66-10). Bob Stoops was HC at this time, Mike Stoops was DC and Schmit was their S&C guy. I think it's easy to say that CLR doesn't care about defense or that his teams regress but attention should be given to some of the preceding details IMO. Hopefully the DC hire will be a good one.

Good counterpoints.

I see it like this. A QB takes to much heat for his teams W/L record. Even when a QB has a crappy team or a worst D with him. Same with a HC.

A HC needs positive variables too.

Conference strength. Talent inherited. Schools location and tradition. Other staff members. Recruits working out. Its Just never one thing. As we say they timing is everything.

Ive seen Carrolls product. Same with Hugs and now CLR. I see BIG issues.
