Oh God. Fucking Manny Diaz? Horrible DC. Did you see him at Texas? Not sure why he is successful this year at Penn State but I'm sure it's not due to him. That would be a horrible hire.
Look closer..read his Bio...he has coached some decent defenses including at Texas...Penn St should be no surprise when you read where some of his defenses ranked nationally..not saying this is the guy but with the names being thrown around he should be in that mix ...definitely when Nua, Lake, CEO are in the conversation...geez..
Penn State has had a very soft schedule. Played OSU tough, but other than that game, they were heavy favorites in the rest of their games. We'll see how they fare vs Cheatigan this weekend.
You are correct Affholter87. They may be ok but we will hire a top DC and there are many better options out there. Keep EM coing Affholter. Right El Doctor"
Oregeron, Lake and Nua won't cut it. None of those guys ever proved they were DC material without someone else to guide them along. Lake would be a hellva DB coach though and Nua is OK in the DL while Oregeron is past his prime and never qualifed for anything more than a DL Coach as an assistant. IMHO
Keep an eye on Zach Arnett the HC at Miss State and a Mike Leach guy. Chances are Riley knows him.
Might get canned,as a DC under Leach he did pretty well. Top 5 defense in the SEC in total defense, rushing defense.Long time asst at San Diego State. Probably would jump atf the chance to return to civilization from Mississippi. 37 years old . Prob a plan B guy tho. From what i hear we are going to take a run at the big names.
I just watched MSU/UGA in 2022 and through the 3rd quarter ZA's defense held their own. Their tackling and run defense were sound and guys were in position nearly every play so if he is available and is plan B or C I think we'll be quite pleased.
No way would Ed Orgeron be in the discussion.
I'd add Manny Diaz to the list....very good DC and shetty Head Coach...doing will in the Big at Penn St.
I don't think that Lake, Nua, or CEO are under discussion at Heritage Hall. Those names sound like press speculation to me.
seriously?
wake me up when they're discussing names like
Mike Macdonald
Jim Schwartz
etc.
open the checkbook
lease a beachfront house
git 'er done
Leonard is a short term hire....will be a HC soon.
EdO & Nua have never been DCs.
Jimmy Lake was run out by Cohen.
Kwiatkowski probably not leaving Texas, but would be a good get. Texas DL is best in the nation.
Guys I think are viable:
Joe Rossi - Minnesota Gophers DC
Trent Bray - Oregon St DC
Tom Allen - soon to be fired HC Indiana
Joe Klanderman - Kansas St DC ( my choice)
Will Muschamp - Georgia co-co DC
Jesse Minter - Michigan DC if this Harbaugh thing goes sideways.
Obviously, Eddie O is the only viable candidate on this list. Multiple nattys, not a technocrat pussy like 208 and adult supervision. Homerun.
Lake was fired for abusing a player. By Jen Cohen. So no. Thsts not happening.
Ed o I like but others think he's not a dc. Too bad. USC would have a heck of a dl and get to the qb and stuff the run.
Nua is part of the present poison so that won't happen.
Don't know anything about Pete alphabet
name Leonhard pops up a lot
Arnett. Haines. Still out there.
Oregeron, Lake and Nua won't cut it. None of those guys ever proved they were DC material without someone else to guide them along. Very unlikely it's Nua, current position coach. Unless somehow we shut down Oregon(right). Also, no way on Orgeron. I think that ship has long sailed.
From someone who witnessed both while at UW:
Yes on Kwiatkowski. His defense gave up some yards between the 20's but was very effective in the red zone and in scoring defense.
No on Lake. Very good DB coach but a medicore, at best, DC. Terrible HC, but that is not what you are looking for anyway.
There are rumblings about Bo Pelini
And feldmans list...
