only problem with that title was the second half didn't matter, game was over at the half.
As far as the first half goes. In almost 50 years, That was the best USC offense I remember seeing. The problem was, it was the worst USC defense I also remember seeing .
Can anyone name a better performing offense? With any heisman guy on it? Ever?
Can anyone name a worse defense? The only half that comes close is the one Jerome Bettis USC's undersized defense to clean his cleats in that dump south bend. 4 possessions , 4 td's , all time off the clock. 28 zip at the half.
Call me a stick in the mud, but I do not understand why USC can't also have a good defense? Why was this ignored in the portal? I get that if you are going to put emphasis on the offense, but why not also attempt to bolster the defense? Maybe that's the plan? Doesn't look like it with recruiting so far. So far the class is 2 thirds full and has one undersized defensive end per rivals. Where's the beef?
I see that the Grinch is just using what he's got since he's outmanned. And yesterday it worked. But turnovers are fickle and tipped balls and bouncing balls don't always wind up with the defense. You can count on a running game. You can count on a solid defense. You can't count on turnovers. just my opinion. Sometimes they just don't come your way.
Loved seeing that Caleb is a big tough guy. No wilting flower . But every time he takes off , it's a huge injury and season ending risk for the team. There is a reason horse collar tackles are illegal. Being pulled back full body weight with a foot stuck in the turf breaks all kinds of things below the waist. Also should mention how well our running backs are performing. No slop. Everybody blocks, no dancing, no fumbles, just very impressed. The O line is also a pleasant surprise , same guys, now with coaching and time together works wonders, huh.
Anytime I think there is a good chance we will lose a game, and it turns out like last night it's a great day for whatever reason. And the french whores are winless since they hired Stereo. so ya, i woke up still smiling.
Onto Fresneck . They now have lots of tape on USC's O. And just like everyone else will probably do whatever they hell they want to SC's d. Hope the turnover gods are smiling on troy again, and Caleb can stay upright. If so. other than the big boys, this team can beat anyone, and can lose to anyone too, including Georgia Southern. shaking my head. sc
For all the critics of USC’s defense last night Stanford only has 120 yards
of offense in the second half after 320 in the first half. It took some adjustments to Stanford’s new running game but we pretty much shut Stanford down in the second half. They got two junk TD’s to make it look close. I am more pleased by the halftime defensive adjustments than anyone else. For you critics maybe we should offer to trade our defense for say Notre Dames, Or Nebraska or North Carolinas.
SC your take on SC’s defense is wwwwaaaayyyy off. I watched football wall to wall yesterday and no defense stopped anyones offense. its the way the game is played period. The offenses are so dominant that defensive backs are reduced to holding on every play because they have too. if Ewers doesn’t get hurt
Bama does NOT stop Texas even with 5 star talent at virtually every position. surely you realize that . And by the way in both games so far USC’s defense has adjusted at half time and greatly improved play
based on very little, it looks like Caleb got pissed off and lost his composure and patience in the second half. (rattled) Dirty hits will do that. Mora relied on them. So has ETCU in the past.
If I am right, and remember Caleb is just a kid. He's got good coaching.
going to be a fun season to watch. wide eyed on O, looking through fingers on D.
would love to hear they are concerned about size on defense. not sure what kind of recruiter crinch is either. thank god for the portal. sc
I should have woken up earlier. That was my post this morning. Sort of a dickens like tale of two cities best of times worst of times post.
dont think I’m as high on the o as you after that second half and not as down on the d.
usc lack of recruiting big boys perplexes me also. Though their Ol looks good. Guess if you hold onto 3 stars for 6 years some of them turn out ok.
that first half was a clinic. The fact it was on the road. To a team I despise. To a team that’s ruined so many seasons for usc. A year almost to the day after they trounced usc in la and made usc change coaches mid season for the 3rd consecutive time? Yeah. Delicious To trounce those pompous pricks.
turnovers are fickle but. They are created with hard hitting defense. With db who play up in your face and end up with a fair number of pi. Peolle love the Int and fumbles but hate the PI. Same coin. Different sides. go big or go home Defense. Ballsy. That skinny 6’6 kid is messing everything up for opponents. He’s interrupting passing lanes. He’s not just 6’6. He must have long arms and can leap and time stuff. This is becoming a habit. Fresno qb is 6 foot.
i was ready to post that this might be the best offense usc has ever had. Ever. Yeah I remember the names. I was there. Chow. Leinart. Palmer. Bush. Ever. Ever. And I will say at their peak? This offense is better. Caleb’s arm is better than Leinarts. His willingness to take the open field and run is such a weapon. But that second half? I don’t think usc went vanilla. I think usc got sloppy. Caleb lost focus Made some bad decisions. And I think Stanford adjusted and that worries me.
but yeah that first half. Wow.
i like my breakdown. Osu Fresno colorado ua wsu cal. Usc will play them straight and try to beat them w better personnel on d. Asu ucla nd utah? Blitz. Take chances. Feast or famine and trust their offense to score points. Lots.
in the end if they play to expectations and don’t lay an egg rhey win 8 and have a chance in the other 4. Asu ucla nd and Utah. Win half and they’re 10-2 Pull that off where usc stood in November of last year and that’s one of the great one year coaching jobs I’ve ever seen. Coaching including cutting players and transfers.
the team we saw in the second half could lose to one of those first 8 I mentioned. And would lose to the final 4.
but you predicted lots of points and a very exciting team. Thats where things are at the moment.
oh and ps. At #7 this team is a bit of a pretender. They might go 6-0 before utah and wind up top 4-5. Way over ranked. but it helps them recruit and helps build hope and momentum even if it’s fools gold. This year was supposed to be a throw away year so anything good that happens is a plus. I would expect they might climb to 4-5 before losing a couple and settling back to 15 or so which is imo fair and representative. Beyond Bama Georgia and OHio state I don’t really see that many elite teams out there. Just when we see a Baylor scoring 66 a game lastbyear or whatever they go get smacked by magic underwear people and score 20
