Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson has emerged as one of the 2022 NFL Draft’s top defensive prospects during the 2021 college football season. Through 12 games, Hutchinson totaled 54 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
In a recent NFL.com column, former scout Bucky Brooks said that Hutchinson could emerge as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He also compared Hutchinson to Los Angeles Chargers star Joey Bosa.
"Studying Hutchinson's game over the past few seasons, it is easy to envision the 'Michigan Man' thriving on Sundays in a manner similar to former Ohio State star Joey Bosa," Brooks wrote. "Hutchinson is not quite as refined as the 2016 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and three-time Pro Bowler, but they take care of business off the edge utilizing a variety of maneuvers that make them tough to contain in one-on-ones. Hutchinson provides persistent pressure and steady production that will appeal to scouts seeking a No. 1 pass rusher with a consistent game.
"It is still quite early in this process, and the overall draft board will change as underclassmen declare their intentions. But at this time, with Hutchinson preparing for Saturday night's Big Ten Championship Game against Iowa, the game-wrecking Wolverine certainly looks like a top-five prospect with the potential to surge to No. 1 with a strong showing during the pre-draft circuit."
During a recent episode of The College Football Daily, host Trey Scott asked former Wolverine Chris Singletary if he saw any similarities between the 1997 national championship team he played on and this year’s Michigan team.
“I do,” Singletary said. “I think you’ve got a great player on defense which we had in Charles Woodson and you’ve got a great player in Aidan Hutchinso
Bosa has been disappointing the past 2 years for the Chargers.
