Both teams were totally vanilla in their openers, but at least Rice is a legitimate D-1 team and Colgate is a toothpaste. Take away the 87 yard td run early in the game and Stanford rushed for under four yards a carry vs toothpaste. I doubt Stanford can run good enough to really shorten the game. USC has recently struggled vs Stanford in Palo Alto because we weren’t very good. This USC team is
pretty good, maybe very good. USC wins by double digits
loved to see Grinch adjust and bring up run support. Something I have been screaming and bitching about with the last staff. That's what shut down rice's running game, in my opinion.
but size matters. as games wear on, it matters more. look at how g tech hung with the big boys up front with Clemson for most of the game.
going to take a couple of years, portal will help. To date, very impressed with SC's coaching, but it was freaking rice. Couldn't say that the last several years. Aranda was my choice, even Tedford, but I don't have a problem being wrong. All I care about is my team being well coached. sc
Yea, the staff will absolutely have to adjust to that. In the B12, everyone runs Spread AR, but our schedule has some run heavy teams that they will absolutely have to alter the game plan for.
As you noted, we did vs Rice, but this is a different animal. FWIW, I think our secondary can handle being more on an island to allow that safety to come up.
You’re so right. People forget that just last week that formula was working fine for Rice. SC finished its second possession of the game in the second quarter tied at 7. Had Rice scored on its second possessio, it would have tied at 14 halfway through the 2nd quarter. If Rice can do it for 1.5 quarters, so can Stanford
They also had a little scatback. Always hard for usc.
i think the way you hold usc under 50 is to keep them on the sideline The key is slow methodical huddles and 4 yard runs. Kill clock. And wear usc out. Rice had that for a couple drives. Their hc used to be stanford oc and tried to take the formula to usc.
when an offense like that has to start throwing a lot or hurrying up they make mistakes. And they did I think they’ll be predictable. Two tight ends run on first two downs with 2 wr. And on Third and four go even bigger with 3 te. Or throw out of a more traditional set. Either way david Shaw is woody hayes or bo. Very throw back coach

You people are going to be shocked by what you see.
