Anthony Lucas move to rush end...why?

USC looks loaded at that position and similarly to Foreman, Lucas looks like he dropped 40 pounds to play it. What was Grinch thinking? Now we have two DLmen that look like LBrs and not inside DLmen....and I thought the big uglies depth in the interior was shallow..

Lucas is basically the same size as Nick Bosa and Tuli or the slightly lighter Will Anderson

just saying

ultimate interior depth is currently dependent of the development of Deijon Laffitte

Sullivan is part of that rotation right now, as are Taleni and Ta'ufo'ou, even Benton

they are the dependable part of depth where Deijon is this year's ceiling

right or wrong

dependabilty and movement is valued more than size even by Nua

but then outcomes trump everything

Nick Bosa is 6'4" 265-270 pounds and built....Lucas is 6'5" and nowhere near the build of Bosa...Anderson is 6'4" 240-245....and again Lucas is nowhere near the buid of Anderson...Lucas looks long and lean.....neither of those other two look anything like that..IMHO

I don't get that move either. Well, if it's the wrong move it will probably cost him his job. It may mean that Sullivan is impressing at DE

Tall defensive ends can be very effective remember Ed too tall Jones of the Cowboys he was 6' 9". I don't know if SC has other guys with Lucas's height to play the edge. On the interior didn't they get a couple big transfers in Barrs and Alexander?

I was referring to the scheme of dropping the DE into coverage and not so much about Foreman's season. I agree with your comment about his disappointing season. But what a big play at a big moment against the bruins. I often questioned, during the season, the idea of dropping a big dude into coverage. Tuipoloti was asked to do the same thing a few times. Now it appears that Grinch didn't have the personnel to run his scheme. I say that because of the type of rush ends he has recruited this year. Muhammad is a rush end as well but is built more like a LB.

I wouldn't and don't trust listed heights and weights. The nfl combine always finds huge discrepancies. The boy looks big.

I will guarantee you looking at Lucas this fall that the guy is not 295 as listed. If he's 6'5" I would be surprised if he went over 260....skinny looking including twig looking arms.......if that was intentional ...it was a bad move....on the other end...Height looks bigger, Shelby is huge, Muhamad is a rock ....all look more solid than Lucas does now...

Grinch uses the rush end to drop into coverage. Need an athletic LB type to be able to do that. Worked to perfection when Foreman saved the game vsUCLA

Foreman had one big play all last season and you mentioned it ...otherwise the kid showed nothing except confusion on the field IMHO...that move wasn't successful at all otherwise at 235 they wouldn't have moved him to the DE position and put his hand on the ground...whih is where he should have been when he was around 265..
