Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise St, 5-9, 215 lbs. Jeanty was a 3* recruit from Lone Star HS, Frisco, Tx. Lone Star is one of Texas HS top FB programs. Lone Star is ranked # 34 in Texas which is dam good and a D-1 class school. Ashton senior year stats, 1,850 yds, 41 Td. Whoa, Ashton is very fast, 10.2/10.3 100 m.

His father was in the Navy and stationed in Europe with very little FB. So, his Dad made him move with relatives in Texas as a 10th grader where he did well as WR then RB.

AJ is the classic, diamond in the rough example. Smaller schools like Boise St must find these types of players. Man, what a great find. Jeanty had offers from Tulane, Army, Air Force, New Mexico & Cal. He said Boise St and Tulane recruited him the hardest and the others not so much. The Boise St coach who pursued Jeanty should get a big fat raise, that coach knows talent.

After yesterday game (11-9-24), Boise St is 8-1, ranked # 12 nation (should move up to # 10 in the new rankings), losing to Oregon in a close game, 34-37 in the 2nd game of season (early into the season) Saw that game, did not know anything about Ashton. After the game, I said wow what a terrific RB. Against Oregon, Jeanty rushed for 25 times = 193 yds, 3 TD’s, one for 70 yds. Look at him now, the leading rusher in the nation. In 9 games 1,734 yds, 193 ypg, 23 TD. Pass Rec, 16 rec = 93 yds. At this rate, for 12 regular games = 2,300 yds, 31 Td’s. Shoot that’s good enough for a final 4 Heisman & trip to NYC.

I told one of my buddies last year, a guy you probably know or heard of since you followed HS ball back in my day, that Jeanty was a Boise st star and future NFLer.

Changing subject- Are you somehow connected to Loyola HS (LA Loyola)? Do you know Matt? You don’t have to answer on the board,,, just curious. Cheers

C. Welch stop coaching for about 8 years, 1994-2001, but still taught English at CC. There was a harsh penalty imposed by the CIF for illegal practicing during the off season. He was fed up with the penalty and quit coaching. Plus, he was getting heat from parents and boosters about his excessive hard practices.

Currently, C. Welch sits at # 8 in CIF history books with most wins. If he had coached those 8 off years, he would be at # 2 in total wins in CIF history and been De La Salle biggest rival.

The school kept asking him to come back and he did in 2001. His 2005 (beat Hart 21-13) and 2006 (beat Moorepark 24-22) teams won 2 more CIF titles. Then the 2006 team represented the SS CIF in the Open State title game vs De La Salle, winning 27-13. CC was a huge underdog. Dang, CC pounded De La Salle around like no other team did. DLS C. Bob Ladouceur said CC was the best team he faced in all his years.

C. Welch quit one month later and moved to Orange County to be near his married children and grandkids. He quickly unretired, got back into coaching again at a small Catholic school, St Margaret and 2008 won his 2nd State title. Quit St Margaret and coached at Santa Margarita HS. In 2011, C. Welch won his 3rd State title. What an accomplishment, he's the only CIF coach to have won 3 State titles at 3 different schools.

My friend, C. Harry Welch has to be top 3 HS FB coaches in CIF history. He is in the CIF Hall of Fame. I believe C. Welch would have killed it in college FB.

PS. Canyon Country HS renamed their FB stadium, the Harry Welch stadium honoring his amazing coaching & football legacy at CC HS.
