Love the pick....Cousins will be gone after one season of preparing Penix to take over...good offensive line and recievers which should serve him well if they can keep them together....and after one year sitting Penix will be ready to go...
@Hick - I don't think the Chiefs win the SB last year without their corners. They maybe don't get past Baltimore for that matter. Snead was straight up lock down and in the playoffs out played his colleague McDuffie who gets more press. One CB won't win you games, but if you can get a pair that can straight up lock down receivers then your DL can wreak havoc.
Again, covering a guy is not dominating defense...that's not a knock on Corners as I played that position in High School years ago...and I beleive it might be the toughest position on the field to play but again...that is not the position that I would consider makes for a dominant defense...
Like I said, maybe they think Cousins is meat, i.e. he isn't going to be any good for them moving forward, due to his injury, and they're just trying to get ahead of the game and get the QB they feel gives them the most upside.
I'm not sure why they feel that QB is Penix, when they probably could have got him in the 2nd round, but I guess we'll see. Maybe some other GM (whose team picked ahead of ATL in the 2nd round) knew the Falcons really wanted Penix and made a deal.
No way was penix lasting to the 2nd round. If Denver were smart. Which they’re not. They’d take him. The raiders would have taken him. Shoot the Vikings would have taken him. No one believed the crap around mc carthy being the top qb in the draft.
I’ve been saying repeatedly penix is a top qb and clearly I’m validated with that pick. His age and injury status prevented him from being a top 3 pick.
There was no reason for Cousins to be told any of this. The draft is fluid and you don't look a gift horse in the mouth when you have a shot at one of if not the top QB in the draft that falls in your lap. Just because the media wasn't thrilled and fans that have their favorites weren't thrilled sometimes football folks know better and based upon what I'm hearing most ex-players now analysts think this was a great move...even some guys like Ivan Rapaport who predicted if Penix fell to 8th he expected Atl to grab him. As he said a talent like this might not come around for another 5 or 6 drafts and all QB's need one or two years to develop before they are ready. With that in mind Atl might have a QB for the next 7 or more years....
I suppose it depends on whether they think they can win now or next year with an immediate starting impact type player. If they don't think they can, then they probably shouldn't have signed Cousins in the first place imo.
Should have picked Latu or anyone else who will not be sitting on the bench for at least 2 or 3 years.
Now I see why Belichick wanted total control. He knew these guys were dummies.

Ummm. Didnt they just give Kirk Cousins $180M?? Wtf.
yeah, atl didn't handle that pick very well.
