Reggie played all of two months in Birmingham. Boo hoo. He likes telling the story about how he couldn’t find an apartment to live anywhere and so he flopped on the couch of Joe Rudi and his wife. no the truth was that did not want to to spend the money for an apartment and he knew he wasn’t going to be in the minors for very long and he was going to to be called up so he just flopped on their couch and sure enough he was only down there for two months, which is about one month longer than he expected to be

Reggie Jackson is a piece of garbage he always has been. He’s not a civil rights pioneer he was not abused. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He went to college at Arizona State University. He played minor league baseball in Modesto. He played two months in Birmingham and then he wound up being called up to the Kansas City A’s and eventually had a career with the Oakland A’s. All of the places were played, except Birmingham were extremely friendly areas to Black people And Reggie trying to position himself as some persecuted N-word typical of Reggie stealing the spotlight from more deserving people

Holy crap, you guys sure know a lot about Reggie Jackson! Seriously.

I know nothing about the guy. But I suppose you can add this story to the "Reggie is a Dick" file. My friend Jim (Jimmy back then) was a batboy at Anaheim Stadium for years in junior and senior high. One of his unfortunate duties was to ask visiting teams for autographed baseballs to give to rich season ticket holders and front office fucks.

One day the Yankees were visiting and Jimmy had to ask some players to sign some baseballs. Reggie told him to shove the baseballs up his ass. Pretty classy.

Hated him in 1974. Hated him in the 80s and his stupid candy bar.

Thought he was dead now. Sadly I was wrong.

The reason I knew so much about him is that when he came out with the whole interview of what A Po folk black man in da south he had been. I paused for a minute and thought to myself “wait he played in Oakland, New York, Baltimore, Anaheim, and Oakland again. He went to college at Arizona State. Nothing in his past indicates this guy lived a life oppressed by racism. Those are some of the blackest cities in America.

So I looked it up and found that one of his minor-league stops was Modesto, which is not exactly deep south. It’s pretty close to Oakland actually north of the San Joaquin Valley lot of migrant farmers. Sure enough he played two months in Birmingham. So Reggie is about 81 or so and for two months out of his life he was in Birmingham in 1967 or 1968. I doubt any of those conversations happened. I doubt he was ever banned from a hotel or a restaurant in 1967 or 1968. This wasn’t 1957 or 58 or 47 or 48 and there is no way being a top draft choice with his money that he could not get an apartment in Birmingham.I’m positive. He did it because he did not intend to be there long after all he was Reggie Jackson a big star just waiting to get to the major leagues. Why rent an apartment he wasn’t planning on being there long and he wasn’t.
