Bare was one of the earlier students at the USC film school, back in the old days, long before anyone really knew about it, and USC was the only film school around. Must've been during the Great Depression, since I looked him up and he was born in 1913. Dude lived to be 101!

By the way, you're probably referring to his memoir where he wrote about his Novak story. I never read that but will look for it. I read his book on directing, published in 1971. I still have it somewhere, probably buried in a box in my basement.

I'm still curious why you asked if I saw Marooned at the drive-in, although I'm guessing you just figured I did because drive-ins were really popular at that time. I was really young, and I remember being pretty spooked at the notion of being lost in space.
