Two more players who played at Garfield and USC were Bill Hattig and Bob Peviani.
Bill Hattig went both ways at DE and WR at 5'9", 164#'s. He made All League as a DE.
Bob Peviani was voted top lineman by the coaching staff the same year Elme Wilhoite was voted an All American by most selection committees. When asked by the press why, the coaching staff responded by saying they thought he was the best lineman.
Later, Peviani became president of the USC FB Alumni club. Subsequently he died of Alzheimer's decease.
El Doctor, remember these Amigos?
Damm. Whyte ppl lived in ELA in the past? I know they used to live in Baldwin Hills and are trying to come back but didn't know they lived in LA as late as the 1950s? You don't say?
My dad taught at Garfield when Bill Hattig and Bob Peviani were there in the early1950's and also in the later 1950's when Ben Rosin was there. I think their presence at USC helped make me a USC fan along with being a big fan of shot putter Parry O'Brien.
garfield
Lets hear it for Garfield and Roosevelt
