I had no idea. I went there as a kid. In Denver. Never heard from them again until about 40 years later when my partner and I ran the travel ball club and he was going to open a new Shakey's concept in Ontario Mills. Apparently was their big come back. They got some financing etc. Was goign to open the 2nd in Victorville and that was his motive, set up the first, open the second, have a job close to home.
Ironically, this is the guy who began having Shakey moments himself. Random health issues he attributed to his HS football days or too much sun coaching ball with me. Then last year he was diagnosed with ALS and has gone downhill fast. Breathes through a hole in his throat now.
Shakey's advertised a lot on the AM radio station I listened to as a teenager. Not the Top 40 station, the Sinatra and Doris Day station. KMPC, 710; now the ESPN station. When a Shakey's opened relatively close to me I started going. It wasn't the best pizza in town but it was good, and the place was fun. I stopped going around the time they started serving Mojo potatoes, on the theory that pizza places should stick to making pizzas.
Bigger brain teaser.
How does an unstoppable offense led by a ht winner and an offensive guru punt 7 times?
Don't forget, your offense was 8-19 on 3rd down. Had 20-ish possessions and 33 min TOP.
Obviously the D caused four turnovers in Cal territory.
